Historic Wallace Church: Soup/Chili Supper Fundraiser for Burned Building

The Wallace Methodist Church, outside Canton, was destroyed in a fire in the early morning of October 16, 2019. No official cause of the fire has been announced. Fortunately, there were no injuries, but the building was totally destroyed.

The Wallace congregation intends to rebuild. The church’s annual Soup and Chili supper will be held as usual this year. The supper will be November 23, at 6:00 p.m, at the Todd Berry Building at the Van Zandt County Fair Grounds. Price per person is $8.00. All are invited to attend: It’s all you can eat! There will be a Dessert Auction following the supper. Funds will go to the rebuilding of the church.

The Wallace Community, west of Canton, had its beginnings around 1840. The local Methodist Church was organized in the late 1800s and held its meetings in the school building for years. Finally, a church structure was built and dedicated in 1910, serving as the Wallace Church home for well over 100 years, until its destruction on October 16.
