February 23: A Revolutionary War Soldier Speaks!

The Daughters of the American Revolution (Neches River Chapter) and the Van Zandt County Genealogical Society will have a joint meeting on Saturday, February 23, at 2:00 p.m., at the main county library, 317 First Monday Lane (Hwy. 859), in Canton.  This meeting is open to the public, and refreshments will be served.  The program for the meeting, provided by the DAR, is the group's annual George Washington celebration. The featured speaker for the event is Bill Covington, a college and secondary school teacher and winner of the DAR Outstanding Teacher of U.S. History award.  Mr. Covington, who specializes in the Revolutionary War years, will give a presentation on the life and achievements of George Washington.  Uniformed as a Continental soldier, Mr. Covington will display and demonstrate the weapons, clothing and equipment of the common fighters of the Revolutionary War who succeeded in winning our independence from Great Britain. This promises to be a very informative and entertaining event.

The public is welcome! The DAR and Van Zandt County Genealogical Society encourage all to attend.
